Roman Catholic Diocese of Taungngu

The diocese Taungngu (Latin: Dioecesis Tunguensis ) is a location in Myanmar Roman Catholic diocese based in Taungngu.

History

The diocese Taungngu was on November 27, 1866 by Pope Pius IX. cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate of Burma established as Apostolic Vicariate of Eastern Burma. On April 27, 1927, the Apostolic Vicariate of Eastern Burma were from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Kengtung. The Apostolic Vicariate of Eastern Burma was renamed on 27 April 1927 in Apostolic Vicariate of Toungoo.

On January 1, 1955, the Apostolic Vicariate of Toungoo was by Pope Pius XII. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Dum alternative to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Yangon is a suffragan. The Diocese of Toungoo announced on 21 March 1961 from parts of its territory to the founding of the diocese of Taunggyi. On 31 July 1996, the diocese was renamed the Diocese of Toungoo Taungngu. The diocese Taungngu was placed under the Archdiocese of Taunggyi suffragan on 17 January 1998.
