Roman Catholic Diocese of Vác
The diocese Vac (Latin: Dioecesis Vaciensis, de: . Waitzen ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in Hungary based in Vac. It is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Eger since 1993 as suffragan.
History
The diocese Vac was built in 1004 and was one of the first ten bishoprics founded Hungary King Stephen in the 11th century. The first bishop, Saint Bystrík, 1008 used.
Cathedral
The present cathedral of Vac is the fifth diocesan church since the founding of the diocese in the 11th century. Bishop Christoph Anton von Migazzi was built by the French classicist late Baroque style church after 1762. The altarpiece depicts the encounter of Mary with her cousin Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist ( the Visitation ). The dome shows a representation of the Holy Trinity. Both works were created by the painter Franz Anton Maulbertsch ( 1724-1796 ). In the crypt of the cathedral are the tombs of the bishops and the cathedral chapter.
