Roman Catholic Diocese of Wanxian

The Diocese of Wanzhou (Latin: Dioecesis Uanscienensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Wanzhou in the People's Republic of China.

History

Pope Pius XI. founded the Apostolic Vicariate Wanhsien on August 2, 1929 from annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Chongqing. With the Apostolic Constitution Quotidie Nos it was raised on April 11, 1946 Diocese.

On January 10, died in 2001 Bishop Matthias Duan Yin -ming, one of the last surviving bishops of Pius XII. was ordained a bishop. He was succeeded by Bishop Joseph Xu Zhixuan, former Coadjutor Bishop since 1989, which was officially recognized by the state and died on 8 December 2008. Of present bishop of the diocese is Paul He Zeqing, former Coadjutor Bishop since 2005.

In 1998, Matthias Duan Yin -ming Xu Zhixuan and Joseph Xu Zhixuan were invited to participate in the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for Asia, but the Chinese government refused them permission to leave.
