Roman mausoleum of Fabara

The Mausoleum of Lucius Aemilius lupus in Fabara, a municipality in the province of Zaragoza of Aragon ( Spain) Autonomous Region, is not precisely datable Roman mausoleum. The grave monument is a protected monument since 1931 ( Bien de Interès Cultural ).

Location

The tomb is located near the former Roman villas ( villae rustica ) and probably also other Roman grave monuments.

Description

The temple-like tomb has an elongated rectangular floor plan. It lacks a base, as is usual with Roman temples. In its place, a low podium is present, which ends with a simple profile. The front consists of a row of columns with four columns, a gable and a porch. A stone gable roof completes the building. The two rear corner pilasters and a frieze below the roof approach is simpler. The so-called cella is toward the rear narrower.

Inscriptions

On the tomb are two inscriptions were. The first was engraved on the pediment:

The second inscription was on the frieze of the architrave and consisted of bronze letters that are lost today. The reconstruction of the inscription is due to the dowel holes for the letters:

"The Lucius Aemilius lupus, 13 years old. His father Lucius Aemilius Priscus and his mother Domitia Severa have erected ( the grave ). "
