Fabara

Fabara (Catalan Favara Favara de Matarranya or ) is a Spanish municipality in the comarca of Bajo Aragón - Caspe in Aragon. The municipality is situated on the river Matarraña.

Language

The place is like throughout the territory of the Franja de Aragón bilingual; original language is Catalan in the influenced by numerous substrates of the Aragonese and Castellanismen local dialect of Fabarol.

History

The settlement goes back to the year 5000 BC. El Roquizal del Rullo considered the most important Iron Age settlement in Aragon. From the time of the Roman conquest in 1931 declared a Monumento nacional Mausoleum of Lucius Emilius Lupo is obtained.

After the Moorish conquest of the Iberian Peninsula lived the tribe of the Berber Hawwara (French: Houara ) in Fabara, of which the place derives its name. Following the Reconquista of the place was to 1428 under the rule of the Order of Calatrava.

Economy

Nearly half the population ( 45.3 %) is employed in agriculture (INE 2001).
