Roman Sikorski

Roman Sikorski ( born July 11, 1920 in Mszczonów (Poland ); † September 12, 1983 in Warsaw) was a Polish mathematician.

Life

Roman Sikorski studied from 1937 at the University of Warsaw. After studying in Zurich from 1946 to 1947 he received his doctorate with Andrzej Mostowski 1948. Since 1949, Roman Sikorski research at the Polish Academy of Sciences ( PAN). In 1952 he was appointed associate professor at the University of Warsaw, 1955 to full professor. In 1962 he became a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and was there from 1965 to 1977 director of the Institute of Mathematics.

Roman Sikorski dealt with calculus, mathematical logic, algebra and topology. The lemma of Rasiowa - Sikorski is associated with his name.
