Ron Chernow

Ronald S. Chernow ( born 1949 in Brooklyn, New York City ) is an American journalist and biographer.

Life

Ronald Chernow each studied English Literature at Yale University and Cambridge University. He then worked from 1973 to 1982 as a freelance journalist. From the early 1980s he worked for the think tank The Century Foundation, where he oversaw the department of financial Political Studies. From this starting point, he published his first two books, The House of Morgan: An American Banking Dynasty and the Rise of Modern Finance ( 1990) and The Warburg ( 1993) and his published 1997 essay collection The Death of the Banker three books on the topic banks. His biography of the dynasty of the banker JP Morgan was awarded a National Book Award, and his chronicle of the German - Jewish banking family Warburg was in German language under the title The Warburgs: published odyssey of a family.

His 1998 published biography of John D. Rockefeller were each honored by Time and The New York Times as one of the ten best books of the year. He received a George Washington Book Prize for his 2004 biography of the same name published Founding Father of the United States, Alexander Hamilton. With a Pulitzer Prize for Best Biography, he received an award for his biography of George Washington in 2011, is the most significant book prize.

Currently Chernow writes a biography of Ulysses S. Grant.
