Ron de Lugo

Ron de Lugo ( born August 2, 1930 in Englewood, New Jersey ) is a former American politician. Between 1973 and 1979, and again from 1981 to 1995, he represented the U.S. Virgin Islands as a non-voting delegate in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Ron de Lugo visited the Saints Peter and Paul School in Saint Thomas in the Virgin Islands and the Colegio San Jose in Puerto Rico. In the years 1948 and 1950 he served in the U.S. Army. He has at times been program director and announcer at Radio AFN military. From 1950 to 1955 he worked in the Virgin Islands in the radio business at various stations. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1956 and 1960, and again from 1963 to 1966 he was a member of the Senate of his homeland. At times he led the local Democratic group. From 1959 to 1964 he was a member of the Democratic National Committee. In the years 1961 and 1962 he was mayor (Administrator ) of the island of Saint Croix. From 1968 until 1972 - at a time when there was no official congress delegates from the Virgin Islands - he represented his home been to Washington DC Between 1956 and 1968 took part in de Lugo as a delegate to all Democratic National Conventions.

In the congressional elections of 1972, de Lugo was elected as the first non-voting delegate from the Virgin Islands in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he took up his new mandate on January 3, 1973. After two re- election he was able to complete three legislative sessions in 1979 as a delegate in Congress until January 3. In 1978 he gave up another candidacy. Instead, he applied unsuccessfully for the governorship of his home. In the elections of 1980, de Lugo was again elected to congress delegates, where he Melvin H. Evans replaced on January 3, 1983, which was two years before become his successor. After six re- election he was able to spend up to January 3, 1995, seven other legislatures. In 1994, he did not stand for re-election. Since then, he is no longer politically have appeared.
