Ronald Daus

Ronald Daus ( born May 12, 1943 in Hannover ) is a German linguist with a focus on Latin American Studies.

Life

Ronald Daus studied Romance languages ​​( Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian ) and Oriental Studies (Arabic, Malay, Tagalog ) in Hamburg, Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro and Kiel. In 1967 he received his PhD on the topic The epic cycle of Cangaceiros in folk poetry Northeast of Brazil. In 1970 he habilitated with a work on Ramón Gómez de la Serna. At the age of 27, he received an appointment in 1970 as Professor of Hispanic Studies, and Latin American Lusitanistics at the Free University of Berlin ( later the New Romania was added ), where he studied until his retirement in 2008, and taught.

Daus has been working for more than 40 years in the field of " New Romania" with the contacts between the peoples of Europe and non-European cultures. He taught as a visiting professor, inter alia, two years in Mexico City at the Colegio de México, a year in Singapore at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, a year in Manila at the University of the Philippines and one year in Tahiti at the Université du Pacifique. Daus specialty areas are overseas expeditions, formation and development of colonialism, European and non-European and non-European cultures mixed urban literature and Metropolitan Studies.
