Ronald Ernest Dearing, Baron Dearing CB ( born July 27, 1930 in Kingston upon Hull, † 19 February 2009) was a British civil servant and later Chairman of the Post Office Ltd..

Life

Dearing was 1993-2000 Chancellor of the University of Nottingham. Since 13 February 1998, he served as a life peer member of the British nobility. As a life peer, he was a member of the House of Lords. Dearing died on 19 February 2009 from cancer.

In February 1996, a commission was by the Conservative government under John Major and the Labour opposition ( National Committee of Inquiry Into Higher Education ) was launched, which had the task to look for ways out of its deepening financial and structural crisis in the universities. This commission was headed by a recognized educational experts Ronald Dearing.
