Roorkee (Hindi: रूड़की Rurki [ ruɽki ] ) is a city with about 120,000 inhabitants in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.

It is located about 180 kilometers north of New Delhi in Haridwar district between the rivers Ganges and Yamuna. Roorkee is a nationally important and well-known center for research and teaching.

It houses an Indian Institute of Technology ( IIT), one of the nation's seven of these elite universities. The IIT Roorkee has emerged from the University of Roorkee. Its predecessor was the Thomason College of Civil Engineering.
