Rosalia Lombardo

Rosalia Lombardo (* December 1918; † December 6, 1920 ) was an Italian kid whose mummy is located in Palermo in the crypt vault of the Capuchin convent.

Rosalia was the daughter of General Mario Lombardo and died a week before her second birthday of the Spanish flu.

The microclimate in the Imperial Crypt ensures that corpses remain exceptionally well preserved. The burials in the Palermo's Capuchin Crypt was officially discontinued in 1881; the Nachbestattung the small Rosalia is one of the few exceptional cases.

In addition, General Lombardo asked the chemist Alfredo Salafia to preserve the body of his deceased daughter from decay. The long time unknown preservation method has produced one of the best preserved mummies in the world. To date, even the finest hairs are visible. However, only the head is visible; the rest of the body is hidden under a kind of oilcloth. For decades it was assumed that a Nitrat-/Nitrit-Gemisch Salafia injected into the veins of the dead child and the cavities with wax ausstopfte to preserve the rounded shapes of the face. According to reports from researchers in March 2009, but became a part glycerin, one part formaldehyde, enriched with zinc sulfate and chlorides, used a third part alcohol solution with salicylic acid for preservation. This information was discovered in Salafias estate in a manuscript entitled Nuovo metodo speciale per la conservazione del cadavere umano intero allo stato permanent elements fresco.
