Rosalía Mera

Rosalía Mera Goyenechea ( born January 28, 1944 in A Coruña; † August 15, 2013 ibid ) was a Spanish textile entrepreneur and self-made billionaire. The time of death richest woman in Spain was in the 1970s and 1980s with her then husband Amancio Ortega, the founder of the fashion chain Zara and Inditex Group.

Life

Mera left with eleven years, the school and worked as a seamstress.

In 1972 she founded with her husband Amancio Ortega, the fashion chain Zara. 1985 summarized the entrepreneurs their activities in the textile sector in the Inditex group together. She held a stake of more than 30 percent of the hotel chain Room Mate. Mera was also the President of the Paideia Foundation.

Forbes magazine estimated her wealth at 4.7 billion euros and that of her ex-husband's Ortega to 43 billion euros. In 2012 she was on the list The World's 100 Most Powerful Women in 54th place and in 2013 at number 66

In addition to her business activities she was also known for her social commitment. It declared its solidarity with the protest movement of the " Indignados " and publicly expressed criticism of the planned tightening of the Spanish abortion law.

On 14 August 2013, it suffered while vacationing with her daughter on Menorca a stroke. She was transferred from there to a hospital in A Coruña, where she died the following day. She was buried in the church of Santa Eulalia of Lian in Oleiros cemetery (A Coruña).
