Rosalind Cash
Rosalind Cash ( born December 31, 1938 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, † October 31, 1995 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American actress.
Life
The Afro -American actress grew up in Atlantic City and decided in New York to begin an acting career. This project proved to be difficult at first, so that cash for a long time in addition to small stage roles at the Harlem YMCA ( in Langston Hughes ' Soul Gone ) and at New York City Center ( in the musical Fiorello About the New York City Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia) had to perform various secondary activities, including as a shop assistant, nurse, waitress and singer in a nightclub. Incidentally she took acting classes with Edmund Cambridge and Vinette Carroll.
Her acting breakthrough reached in 1968 with nearly thirty years ago, when the ensemble of the Negro Ensemble Company ( NEC) met, the staged in this time of racial unrest and increased requiring greater rights for colored people especially pieces of blacks for blacks. Rosalind Cash played modern, emancipated black women as the " Adele Eloise Parker " in Ceremonies in Dark Old Men by Lonne Elder III. and thus became known nationwide. In 1969 she was a guest appearance in London during the staged by Peter Daubeny World Theatre Season.
In 1971 she made her debut with a small role in the thriller Klute the film. In the same year she starred in the futuristic apocalyptic drama The Omega Man the female lead, who saves the real heroes of the film ( Charlton Heston ) in front of a group of mutants. The following year, she played the title role in Melinda, a film of the blaxploitation genre, as strong and dangerous female character. From then on, she was a fixture in Hollywood, even if their roles had different quality. She played under Richard Fleischer in The New Centurions, under Sidney Poitier in Uptown Saturday Night, but also cheaper in productions such as the horror film Dr. Black and Mr. Hyde a good-natured black doctor, who after taking a tincture in a brutal White transformed.
In the seventies and eighties cash was extensive television works. She played guest roles in television series such as The Cosby Show, Kojak, Starsky & Hutch, " Highway to Heaven " and played leading roles in television movies such as A Killing Affair (as unhappy wife of OJ Simpson). For some time, she also starred in the soap opera General Hospital as Familienmatriarchin " Mary Mae Ward ."
1992 Rosalind Cash was taken for their artistic merits in the Black Film makers Hall of Fame.
She died on 31 October 1995 at the age of 56 years of cancer.
