Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

The Rose- Hulman Institute of Technology is a small undergraduate engineering college in Terre Haute with approximately 1600 students ( 2003). In addition to the bachelor's degree programs (4- year) in almost all engineering sciences, there is a graduate program in Engineering Management ( Industrial Engineering). From 2001 to 2009 it was awarded as " Best Undergraduate Engineering College of the Year" by U.S. News and is thus for many students a good alternative to colleges like MIT, Virginia Tech, or the California Institute of Technology. In publications such as "The Best Buys in College Education" and " Barron's Guide to the Most Prestigious Colleges " in the Rose Hulman IT is also mentioned regularly. Nevertheless, the majority of students come from the " immediate " area of the two states of Indiana and Illinois.

Location

The campus is located about 10 km east from the city of Terre Haute, IN, a 50,000 -inhabitant town one hour west southwest of Indianapolis on the motorway towards St Louis and the border to Indiana to Illinois. All freshman and a lot of the older ones live on campus. There are also quite a few Fraternity houses and a large sports center.

History

The foundation stone of the college was on 11 September 1875. Was Rose Polytechnic Institute, named after the founder Chauncey Rose, an immigrant from Scotland entrepreneur. In 1903, the college had about 200 students for whom there were no student residences. In 1922 they started to build on the site of the founding family Hulman a new campus. Included in this was the Deming Hall, the first student residence of the College. The campus has steadily expanded over the years and the college was renamed in 1971 in Rose - Hulman Institute of Technology.
