Ross Milne

Ross Milne ( born October 3, 1944 † January 26, 1964 in Innsbruck ) was an Australian alpine skier.

Milne grew up as the son of a farmer up in Myrtleford. At the age of 15, he started for the first time at the Australian Ski Championships. As a member of his country's national ski team in 1964, he took part in practice sessions, which were held in Innsbruck few days before the opening of the Olympic Winter Games. When driving on the downhill slope at Patscherkofel crashed Milne and raced into a tree off the slopes. He retired as serious injuries that despite immediate transfer to the University Hospital of Innsbruck only his death could be determined. At necropsy a tear of the aorta has been named as the cause of death.

An investigation of the Organizing Committee came to the conclusion that Milne had jammed during its run, and thereby ran off the runway. The Australian team manager John Wagner blamed lack of barriers to the racetrack for the misfortune.

Milne's younger brother Malcolm Milne was also a successful ski racer.
