Rote Spitze (Villgraten Mountains)

The red peak is at an altitude of 2956 m above sea level. A. the second highest mountain in the Villgratner mountains. It is located south of St. Jakob in Defereggen and east of the Austro- Italian border.

The immediate neighbor peak east of the Red tip is somewhat higher White Lace ( 2962 m). However, the naming of the two peaks is not unique. Here the view of the Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying is played. According to the inhabitants of the mountain Defereggental names are reversed, however, the Red lace would be followed by the eastern and higher. The Red Lace ( 2956 m, western summit of the two mentioned ), both from Defereggental from - about Brugger Alm (1818 m), Ragötzlalm ( 2115 m) and Gschrittlenke ( 2738 m) - as well as from from Villgratental - on the Oberstalleralm ( 1883 m) and Gschrittlenke - be climbed. The last 150 meters to the summit have difficulty climbing on I . Individual sections are secured here by steel cables. It is sure-footedness required.

The overrun by the Red to White lace is quite popular with climbers. The route is not marked ( climbing difficulty III ).
