Rotenberg (Stuttgart)

Rotenberg is a district of Stuttgart, managed by the municipality Untertürkheim and surrounded by the neighboring villages Obertürkheim Uhlbach and Fellbach.

History

The village Rotenberg ( formerly " Rothenberg " ) is first mentioned in records in 1248. Centuries shaped the fortified castle Wirtemberg, the ancestral castle of Württemberg, the image between the free imperial city of Esslingen am Neckar and the residence city of Stuttgart, before it was completely demolished in 1819 by decision of the then King William I. In their place, he had a magnificent mausoleum, the grave chapel on the Wuerttemberg, for his early deceased second wife, the Tsarevna Catherine Pavlovna, build.

1907 Rotenberg with the grave chapel by King William II was officially renamed in Württemberg.

1931 Rotenberg lost its independence and was incorporated as a municipality twelfth to Stuttgart. When dividing the city into districts Stuttgart 1956 Rotenberg has been assigned to the municipality Untertürkheim.

Others

  • The nickname Käskipper for the Reds Berger is often explained by the envy of neighboring communities on the privileges of its proximity to the ancestral castle of Württemberg - the neighbors called the Wirtemberg, the pride of the Red Berger, therefore like as Käsbuckel. But originally the name goes on the preference of the Red Berger for the " Luckeleskäs " ( " Luckele ": small chicken that were fed with the cheese ) back, a simple quark cheese and milk. The also " Heähleskäs " said cheese was tipped out of a pot on a wooden plank, seasoned with cumin and salt and eaten on bread and wine.
