The Röthen is a 25 km long left tributary of the Itz in Thuringia and Upper Franconia.
Course
The Röthen rises near the Wiefelsburg in Steinach on the southern slopes of the Thuringian Slate Mountains in the district of Sonneberg. It flows south through the city Sonnenberg across the border to Upper Franconia. While maintaining the itzgründischen pronunciation " Rüed'n " changes in Upper Franconia, the official spelling in Röden. The Röden flows through Neustadt and Rödental. It opens into Rödental in the Itz.
