Roy Crane

Royston Campbell Crane ( born November 22, 1901 in Abilene ( Texas), † July 7, 1977 ) was an American comic book artist and a pioneer of the classic adventure comics.

Starting in 1920, Crane was at the Chicago Academy of Art, then went to New York City, where he became assistant to the cartoonist HT Webster for the newspaper New York World. His first Gag Comic Music for the Ear was not a success. This changed with the from 1924 published comic strip Wash Tubbs. Initially heavily influenced comedic, the series developed into a comic adventure, which Crane is one of the founding fathers of the genre. From 1929, the heroic figure Captain Easy was added, which quickly became more popular than Wash Tubbs itself Crane finished the series due to disagreements with his syndicate, but started 1943 Buz Sawyer strip to a Navy pilot in World War II.
