Roy MacLaren (politician)

Roy MacLaren PC ( born October 26, 1934 in Vancouver, British Columbia ) is a Canadian manager, author, publisher, diplomat and politician of the Liberal Party of Canada, which had several deputy of the lower house, some ministers and last High Commissioner in the UK.

Life

After schooling MacLaren holds a degree in historical sciences, which he Catharine 's College, graduating with both a Bachelor of Arts ( BA) at the University of British Columbia and a Master of Arts (MA) at St University of Cambridge and in 1957 Diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Canada. During his tenure there, he also found uses in the foreign missions in Vietnam, Czechoslovakia, as well as at the United Nations in New York City and Geneva. Another study of theology, he finished at Trinity College, University of Toronto with a Master of Divinity ( M.Div. ).

In 1969 he left the diplomatic service for a change in the private sector and was director of public relations at the agricultural machinery manufacturer Massey Ferguson 1974 and then president of the Canadian branch of the Ogilvy & Mather, before he became president of the publishing company CB Media was founded in 1977. He also worked as a writer and publisher, and was primarily involved in his numerous, partly autobiographical books with the history of Canada.

In the general election of 22 May 1979, he was first elected as a candidate of the Liberal Party to the deputies in the lower house and represented in this up to his defeat in the elections of 4 September 1984 the constituency of Etobicoke North.

On 4 March 1980 he took over his first government position and had to be February 28, 1982 Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources.
