Roy Raymond (businessman)

Roy Larson Raymond ( born April 15, 1947 in Connecticut; † August 26, 1993 in Marin County, California ) was an American businessman and founder of Victoria 's Secret.

Life

After Raymond had attended the Stanford Graduate School of Business and the Tufts University, he opened in 1977 in Palo Alto, the first Victoria's Secret store. 1978, the first catalog was printed. For this he had to borrow $ 80,000, his income in the period as president of Victoria 's Secret is estimated to be six million. In 1982, he sold the company with six stores for one million U.S. dollars to Les Wexner. In 1984 he opened the business My Child 's Destiny for children's clothes. However, the company went bankrupt two years later.

On 26 August 1993 at age 46, Raymond committed suicide by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge suicide. His body was found five days later in the bay of San Francisco.
