Marin County, California
Marin County is a county located in the U.S. state of California. He is part of the so-called San Francisco Bay Area, near the city of San Francisco. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat), San Rafael.
The infamous San Quentin State Prison is located in Marin County, as well as the Skywalker Ranch, the headquarters of film and media company Lucasfilm Ltd.. In addition, several high-tech companies are located here. In Marin County is the birthplace of mountain biking.
History
Marin County was one of the counties that were introduced in 1850 with the founding of the state.
The origin of the name is not clear. One possibility is that the namesake was Chief, Marin the leader of the Indian tribe of Licatiut. This tribe inhabited the region and fought against the Spanish conquerors. The other version states that the bay was called between San Pedro and San Quentin in 1775 Bahía de Nuestra Señora del Rosario la Marinera. It is quite possible that Marin is an abbreviation for this somewhat unwieldy name.

Marin County occupies an area of 2145 square kilometers, of which 799 km ² ( 37.24 %) of water.

According to the census of 2000, there were 247 289 people in Marin County. There were 100,650 households, and 60,691 families. The population density was 184 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 84.03 % White, 2.89 % African American, 0.43 % Native American, 4.53 % Asian, 0.16 % Pacific Islander residents from the 4.50% from other races groups; 3.47% were descended from two or more races. 11.06 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 100,650 households out of which 27.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them. 48.40 % were married couples living together, 8.50 % had a female householder with no husband. 39.70 % were non-families. 29.80 % of all households and 9.60% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.90 persons.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 20.30 % under the age of 18, 5.50 % from 18 to 24, 31.00% from 25 to 44 years, 29.70 % between 45 and 64 years and 13.50% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 98.20 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.40 males.
The median income for a household was $ 71,306, and the median income for a family was $ 88,934. Males had a median income of $ 61,282, women $ 45,448. The per capita income was $ 44,962. 6.60 % percent of the population and 3.70 % of families are below the poverty line. 6.90 % of those under age 18 and 4.50% were 65 years or older.
