Marin County, California

History

Marin County was one of the counties that were introduced in 1850 with the founding of the state.

The origin of the name is not clear. One possibility is that the namesake was Chief, Marin the leader of the Indian tribe of Licatiut. The other version states that the bay was called between San Pedro and San Quentin in 1775 Bahía de Nuestra Señora del Rosario la Marinera.
