Siskiyou County, California
The Siskiyou County is a county located in the north of the U.S. state of California. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Yreka.
Geography
The county has a total area of 16,440 square kilometers. Of these, 157 square kilometers (0.96 percent) of water. It is located in the Cascades and the Oregon border, bordered clockwise to the counties: Klamath County, Jackson County, Modoc County, Trinity County, Shasta County, Humboldt County, Del Norte County and Josephine County.
History
The Siskiyou County was established in March 1852 from parts of Shasta and Klamath counties. 1855 parts were outsourced to the Modoc County. It was named after the Siskiyou Mountains.

According to the census of 2000, there were 44 301 people in Siskiyou County. There were 18 556 households, and 12,228 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 87.07 % White, 1.31 % African American, 3.90% Native American, 1.19 % Asian, 0.13 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 2.76 % from other races groups; 3.65% were descended from two or more races. 7.57 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 18 556 households out of which 27.60% have children under the age of 18 living with them. 51.70 % were married couples living together, 10.10% had a female householder with no husband. 34.10 % were non-families. 28.60% of all households and 12.80% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.87.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 24.00 % under the age of 18, 6.70 % from 18 to 24, 22.70% from 25 to 44 years, 28.40% between 45 and 64 years and 18.10 % were 65 years old or older. The average age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 96.50 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.10 males.
The median income for a household was $ 29,530, and the median income for a family was $ 36,890. Males have a median income of $ 31,936, women $ 22,650. The per capita income was $ 17,570. 18.60 % percent of the population and 14.00% of families are below the poverty line. 26.60% of those under age 18 and 7.30 % were 65 years or older.
