Mendocino County, California
The Mendocino County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of California. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Ukiah.
History
The Mendocino County was founded in 1850. It takes its name from Cape Mendocino, which was probably named in honor of Antonio de Mendoza. In the 19th century, were all Indian tribes that lived in the area eradicated. These included the Yuki, the Pomo and the Wintun Indians.

According to the census of 2000, there were 86,265 people in Mendocino County. There were 33 266 households and 21 855 families. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 80.76 % White, 0.62 % African American, 4.76 % Native American, 1.20 % Asian, 0.15 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 8.61 % from other races groups; 3.90% were descended from two or more races. 16.48 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 33 266 households out of which 31.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them. 48.90 % were married couples living together, 11.70 % had a female householder with no husband. 34.30 % were non-families. 27.00% of all households and 10.40 % had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.04.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 25.50 % under the age of 18, 8.10 % from 18 to 24, 25.60 % are between 25 and 44, 27.10 % are between 45 and 64 and 13.60% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 98.90 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.10 males.
The median income for a household was $ 35,996, and the median income for a family was $ 42,168. Males have a median income of $ 33,128, women $ 23,774. The per capita income was $ 19,443. 15.90% percent of the population and 10.90 % of families are below the poverty line. 21.50% of those under age 18 and 7.70 % were 65 years or older.
