Plumas County, California
Plumas County is a county located in the Sierra Nevada in the state of California, United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Quincy, the only incorporated city is Portola.
Geography
The county has a total area of 6769 square kilometers. Of these, 155 square kilometers (2.29 percent of the total area) of water. It is bordered clockwise to the counties: Lassen County, Sierra County, Yuba County, Butte County, Tehama County and Shasta County.
History
The Nevada County was founded in 1854 from parts of Butte County. Parts of the county were held in 1864 but ceded to the Lassen County. It was named after the river Feather River, whose Spanish name Rio de la pluma is that roughly means flow of the spring.

According to the census of 2000, there were 20,824 people in Plumas County. There were 9,000 households and 6,047 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.78 % White, 0.62 % African American, 2.55 % Native American, 0.53 % Asian, 0.10 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 1.81 % from other races groups; 2.61% were descended from two or more races. 5.65% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 9,000 households out of which 26.40 % have children under the age of 18 living with them. 55.40 % were married couples living together, 8.00 % had a female householder with no husband. 32.80 % were non-families. 27.50% of all households and 10.10% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.77.
Based on the county the population was spread out with 22.70 % under the age of 18, 6.00 % from 18 to 24, 22.60 % from 25 to 44 years, 30.80% between 45 and 64 years and 17.90% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 99.80 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.90 males.
The median income for a household was $ 36,351, and the median income for a family was $ 46,119. Males have a median income of $ 38,742, women $ 25,734. The per capita income was $ 19,391. 13.10% percent of the population and 9.00% of families are below the poverty line. 16.70% of those under age 18 and 6.40% were 65 years or older.
