Beckwourth is a census -designated place in Plumas County, Northern California.

The place is located in the Sierra Valley, a mountain valley in the northern Sierra Nevada of California State Route 70 (CA -70), about ten kilometers east of Portola. South of the town lost in the valley of the middle arm of the Feather River and the railway line Feather River Route of the Western Pacific Railroad, which goes back to a narrow gauge line from the 1880s.

The site evolved from the ranch of James P. Beckwourth, a fur hunters and traders in the early days of the Wild West, in 1850 the east of the village located Beckwourth Pass discovered and the Beckwourth Trail docked, a road over the Sierra Nevada for settlers and prospectors. Beckwourth was built in 1852 in what he called Pleasant Valley today Sierra Valley Ranch with a small hotel and trading post for travelers on his street. He lived there until the end of 1858. The last of the three he built log houses is southwest of the present-day village preserved and is a listed building. There is a small museum to life Beckwourths.

Beckwourth is today assuming the small village center on Highway CA -70 and two new residential areas in the hills north-west.
