Skywalker Ranch

Skywalker Ranch is the name of a ranch owned by the film director and producer George Lucas, and on which there is a majority of its film production. The ranch is named after the movie character Luke Skywalker from the Star Wars films. The ranch is located in a secluded area near Nicasio, California, in Marin County.

It is located on Lucas Valley Road, the road was not named after George Lucas, but after a landowner from the same area. The Ranch is not open to the public.

Piece by piece it was built in September 1978 ( previously it was the Bull Tail Ranch ) and cost, according to the Wall Street Journal up to $ 100 million. After fitting Ranchers have complained that the Skywalker Ranch would pollute the environment, Lucasfilm bought to 12 km ² of additional land, which enlarged the ranch on a total of 19 km ². Only 60,000 m² are actually used.

Skywalker Ranch was designed by George Lucas in the sense of a "retreat location for filmmakers," not as a headquarters for his business activities. The main office of Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic and LucasArts are located in the Letterman Digital Arts Center in the Presidio in San Francisco. Lucas himself does not live on the ranch.
