Bolinas is a census -designated place in Marin County, California without a mayor or a city council. Bolinas is unincorporated and general government services. The town has 1620 inhabitants ( 2010 census ).
The town is located on the California coast, about 21 kilometers northwest of San Francisco and is only accessible by a unmarked road.
The 3.6 km ² large settlement area of Bolinas belonged to the Rancho Las Baulines. 1981 described Ernest Callbach in his novel Ecotopia Emerging model of society that ecologically and socially compatible organizes itself. He also reported on Bolinas.
