Roya Hakakian

Roya Hakakian (born 1966 ) is an Iranian- American author.

Life and work

1984 Hakakian left Tehran with her family and went to the USA. There, now she lives as a poet ( For a sake of Water ) and journalist ( NPR's Weekend Edition ), and as a documentary filmmaker. Her short film Armed and Innocent (English Armed and Innocent ) is a film about the intricacies of child soldiers in wars around the world.

Your memories of growing up as a Jewish teenager in post-revolutionary Iran under Khomeini Ruhollah they brought out under the title Journey from the Land of No.

She is also a founding member of the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center.
