Royal Hobart Hospital

The Royal Hobart Hospital ( RHH ) is the largest of three major hospitals in Tasmania, the smallest state of Australia.

The hospital was founded in 1804 with the founding of the penal colony Sullivan 's Cove, at the current location in the Sullivans Cove area it is located since 1820.

Due to the size of Tasmania, the RHH does not offer any medical services. Thus, the inhabitants of the island have to travel, for example, for open heart surgery or complicated transplants to Melbourne or Sydney. With 500 beds, the RHH is the largest hospital of Tasmania.

By 2017, the hospital was commissioned by the Ministry of Health and Human Services for 365 million Australian dollars (246 million euros ) to be renovated by the construction company Leighton Holdings.
