Royal Order of Cambodia
The Royal Order of Cambodia (French Ordre Royal de Cambodge ) was founded on February 8, 1864 by King Norodom I of Cambodia as an award for military and civil merits. On May 10, 1896 Order was adopted as the so-called colonial order in the French religious system. Due to the independence ambitions of Cambodia, the French President Vincent Auriol possessed by decree on 25 August 1948, the deletion of a French Order. Since then, the Royal Order of Cambodia with interruption of the reign of the Khmer Rouge ( 1975-1979 ) is the highest award of the country.
Order of classes
The Order comprises five classes
- Grand Cross
- Grand Officer
- Commander
- Officer
- Knight
Following the acquisition in the French Order of system conditions were linked to the awarding of the Order. Accordingly, the auszuzeichnende person had to be able to demonstrate at least three years of service in Indochina, or have but rendered special services to the colony in metropolitan France.
On 14 July 1933, the statutes being modified such that achieved for a ceremony now the age of 29 and at least nine years colonial service had to be proven.
Order decoration
The religious character is an eight-pointed golden star that hangs from a royal crown. In the center rests high oval blue enamel medallion that is surrounded by a gold combined garnet frost, the stylized insignia of the kingdom can be seen.
The religious character of the knight is made of silver.
Carrying method
The Grand Cross is worn on a sash from the right shoulder to the left hip as well as with an enlarged religious character as a breast star. Grand Officer and Commander decorate the distinction of being neck Orders, Grand Officers in addition to a breast star. Officers and knights bear the label on the tape on the left chest. Officers in addition with a rosette on the tape.
The ribbon was originally red with green border stripes. Since the similarity to the red ribbon of the Legion of Honor was too big, it was decided in 1898 to a white ribbon with orange stripe border. Since 1948, the Order will again be awarded to the original band and worn.
