Royal Prussian Railway Administration

The term Royal Prussian Railroad Administration ( KPEV or short ) is often incorrectly used to refer to the Prussian state railways.

The largely independent railway directorates Prussia were directly under the Ministry of Public Works. To denote the totality of the state railways in Prussia the name Royal Prussian State Railway Administration or Royal was elected Prussian Railroad Administration. An authority Royal Prussian Railroad Administration with this name, however, has never existed, but the term was very common among railway enthusiasts from around 1970 and regarded as real and existing once.

The initial word KPEV and the Crest eagles were once apparently introduced by the "Railway Direction Coeln left bank " after its foundation in 1880, initially to be mounted on cast Achslagerdeckeln of the railway carriage. An entry in the " Catechism of the conductor and brakeman service " of 1920 suggests that the symbol and emblem image " KPEV " primarily had the purpose, the country-specific affiliation with the carriage of the various belonging to Prussia railway companies or " Royal railway directorates " to characterize in a uniform manner. The specific Directorate membership - for example, " Breslau " or " Altona " - was also appropriate under this representation elsewhere in the vehicle. Later this marker was also used for buildings and other objects of the Prussian railway.

Structure and history of the whole of the Prussian state railways are presented in the article Prussian State Railways.
