Rozgart

Rozgart a village in the administrative district of Gmina Gronowo Elbląskie, of the county ( powiat ) Elbląg is heard. It is situated in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship ( Warmian - Masurian ) in northern Poland, about 5 kilometers south Gronowo Elbląskie (formerly Grunau ) and about 9 kilometers southwest of Elblag (formerly Elbing ).

Before 1945, the village belonged to the province of East Prussia as the region and was called Prussian Rosengart (abbreviated Pr Rosengart ).

History

The village was founded in the 14th century (c. 1312-1314 ). The original name " Rosengart " or "Rose Garden " is probably a derivation of the name " Roßgarten ".

In the 16th century were Mennonite settlers who came from Holland in this region, also reflected in Rosengart.

The Mennonite community of Rosengart belonged to the municipality Thien village Pr. Rosengart; Mennonite churches there were in Markushof (now Markusy ) and Thien village (now Jezioro ).

In 1890 a separate Mennonite church was built in Pr Rosengart; The church was destroyed during the Second World War. Today, it is now used as a Catholic church.

Population numbers

1939, the population was 384 ( of which 217 are Protestant, 108 Catholic, 59 Others - almost without exception Mennonites ).

Today ( as of 2006) live in Rozgart about 150 people.
