RTLinux

RTLinux is an extension of Linux to a real- time operating system that was originally developed by Professor Victor Yodaiken together with his student Michael Barabanov at the University of New Mexico. RTLinux is in a free and was sold until 2011 in a commercial version.

Originally RTLinux was sold by FSMLabs, until 2007 the rights were acquired by the embedded Linux specialist Wind River Systems, which is a 100 % subsidiary of Intel since 2009.

RTLinux / GPL, the free version is available under the terms of the GNU GPL. RTLinux has a certain importance in the control of machines. For example, sets the Laboratory for Machine Tools, RWTH Aachen this free operating system variant. On the mass market for ordinary users, it is, however, largely unknown.
