Rubén Paz Wálter Márquez ( born August 8, 1959 in Artigas ) is a former Uruguayan football player.

The midfielder was selected in 1988 to South America's Footballer of the Year.

Club career

His career began Rubén Paz in 1975 Peñarol de Artigas. There he won in 1975 with his team, which he served until 1976, the Campeonato Artiguense. He then played in 1977 at the Uruguayan club Club Atlético Peñarol, where he remained until 1981, and adopted by winning the top scorer of La Liga. With the team he won three championships (1978, 1979 and 1980). In 1982 he moved to Brazil for Sport Club Internacional. At International he remained until 1986, and also with the club, he won three championships (1982, 1983 and 1984). Paz moved to Europe in 1986, the former French first division club Racing Paris, but where he remained and only in six league games ( no goals ) was only used for half a year. In 1987 he went back to South America to play in the Argentine club Racing Club Asociación Civil. With the team he won two international titles in 1988, namely the Supercopa Sudamericana and the Supercopa Interamericana. In the same year he was elected to the Argentine Footballer of the Year and South American Footballer of the Year. In 1989, Paz a second time to Europe, to the Italian first division Genoa. After one season he left the club and went back to Racing Club de Avellaneda. In 1994, Paz to Uruguay to Rampla Juniors, where he was in the Torneo Apertura in the squad. He played in 1995 at Frontera Rivera, in the Apertura 1995 and Clausura 1996, he was interrupted by an intermediate station in 1996 at the Wanderers Artigas, in rows of Godoy Cruz. 1997 to 2000 he is again performed at the former Uruguayan second or first division Frontera Rivera. His playing career ended Rubén Paz in 2006, after he had played in the last few years yet Nacional San José de Mayo (2002), Club Tito Borjas (2003 to 2005) and Pirata Club Juniors (2006).

National

Paz was a member of the Uruguayan U-20 team in 1977 and 1979 respectively won the title in the U-20 South American Championship soccer. At the Junior World Cup in 1977, he finished with Uruguay to fourth place in the World Cup two years later he was third with Uruguay. With the national team of Uruguay, he won the turn of the year 1980/81 discharged Mundialito and he participated in the World Cups in 1986 and 1990.
