Rubidium chloride is a white, crystalline compound of the elements of the formula and chlorine rubidium RbCl. It is also commercially available as a fine powder. Rubidium chloride crystallizes in the cubic sodium chloride structure type.

Production and representation

Rubidium chloride can be obtained by neutralization of aqueous rubidium hydroxide solution by hydrochloric acid:

Properties

Rubidium chloride is hygroscopic. The melting point is 718 ° C. The water-solubility increases with increasing temperature. The refractive index of the crystals is nD = 1.4936, the lattice parameters a = 658.1 pm, in the unit cell contains four formula units.

The solubility in acetone of 0.0021 g / kg at 18 ° C, and 0.0024 g / kg at 37 ° C. The solubility in various alcohols indicated in the table.

The standard enthalpy of rubidium chloride is ΔfH0298 = -430.86 kJ · mol -1, the free standard enthalpy of -405.3 kJ · mol = ΔG0298 -1.

Rubidium chloride forms with various metal chlorides crystallize well double salts.

Use

Rubidiumhalogenide as rubidium chloride, rubidium and Rubidiumiodid be therapeutically used as pain killers and sedatives, as well as an antidepressant. 82Rb - rubidium chloride is used as a tracer for myocardial scintigraphy.
