Arctic raspberries

The arctic raspberries (Rubus arcticus ), and ( Swedish ) Arable berry, called Arctic blackberry or raspberry Arctic, is a species of the genus Rubus.

Description

The thornless perennial plant is about 10 to 30 cm high. The bright red to purple flowers are about 15 to 25 mm, the petals are sometimes perforated. The leaves are pinnate three parts. In June and July, the arable berry is very tasty red fruit. Vegetative it multiplies over spur formation.

Dissemination

The arctic raspberries occurs in northern Eurasia (Finland, northern Sweden and Russia) as well as in China, Korea and Mongolia. In North America it is also known by the Indian name Nagoonberry. It prefers wet to moist peaty bogs with soil.

The arctic raspberries is sometimes confused with the cloudberry (Rubus chamaemorus ) that is found in the same habitat. The cloudberry is, however, easily be distinguished by their almost always white flowers, their yellow-orange when ripe berries and their differently shaped leaves of the arctic raspberries.
