Rudolf Bergander

Rudolf Bergander ( May 22nd, 1909 in Meissen, † April 10, 1970 in Dresden ) was a German painter and director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden.

Life

Bergander graduated in 1923 trained as a porcelain painter and worked at the State Porcelain Manufactory Meissen. 1928 to 1932 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden with Richard Muller and as a master student of Otto Dix. Since 1928 he was a member of the Communist Party, from 1929 member of the Association revolutionary visual artist. From 1933 to 1940 he lived as a freelance artist in Meissen. In 1940 he joined the NSDAP. Until 1945 he was a cartographer in the Wehrmacht.

1946 joined Bergander the SED at. In 1947 he became a member of the Dresden artist community " The Shore ". Until the Commencement to teach painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden in 1949 Bergander was again working freelance. In 1951 he was appointed professor. In the same year he went on a study trip to Bulgaria. 1955/1956 he went to study in Italy. In 1956 he was for his realistic overall work with the National Prize III. Class excellent. In 1957 he was a visiting exhibition at the German Academy of Arts in Berlin.

From 1952 to 1958, and 1964/1965 he was rector of the university. Since 1961 he was a member and permanent secretary for fine arts of the German Academy of the Arts.

Bergander is buried in the Heath Cemetery in Dresden.
