Rudolf I, Duke of Bavaria

Rudolf I of the Palatinate ( born October 4, 1274 Basel, † August 12, 1319 ), called the Stammerer, was from 1294 to 1317 Duke of Upper Bavaria and Count Palatine of the Rhine.

Life

Rudolph's father was Duke Ludwig II of Bavaria, his mother, his third wife Matilda of Habsburg, the daughter of the Roman king Rudolph of Habsburg and Gertrude of Hohenberg Erbgräfin.

Rudolf was involved in the conflicts within the House of Wittelsbach. Early on, he was in dispute with his brother, the future Emperor Louis IV at the Battle of Göllheim Rudolf fought on the losing side of his father Adolf of Nassau. In the election of his uncle Rudolf Albrecht belonged to the Rhenish electors for rejecting minority.
