Rudolf Kner

Rudolf Kner ( born August 24, 1810 in Linz, † October 27, 1869 in Vienna ) was an Austrian zoologist and ichthyologist.

Life and work

Kner first studied medicine and received his doctorate in this subject. He then accepted a position at the Viennese imperial Court Naturalienkabinett, where he among other things worked with Johann Jakob Heckel, but switched in 1841 as Professor of Natural History and Agriculture Administration at the University of Lviv and returned in 1849 initially as Supplent mineralogy, then as a professor of zoology at the University ( appointment November 16, 1849 ) back to Vienna. His field of research was descriptive ichthyology. In addition, he was also an avid paleontologist and geologist and also wrote a textbook on the subject ( 1851).
