Rudolf Schnackenburg

Rudolf Schnackenburgallee ( born January 5, 1914 in Katowice, Silesia, † 28 August 2002 in Würzburg ) was a German Catholic priest and New Testament scholar. He is referred to by Joseph Ratzinger as the " most significant German -speaking Roman Catholic exegete the second half of the 20th century".

Life

Schnackenburgallee spent his childhood in Legnica in 1932 and made at the local high school Johanneum the Abitur. He then studied philosophy and theology at the universities of Breslau and Munich and Breslau assisted with one of Friedrich Wilhelm Maier and his PhD thesis submitted in 1937 on the belief in the Gospel of John in Wroclaw. In the same year he received by Adolf Cardinal Bertram to the priesthood and then initially worked as a pastor in Silesia. After he was driven there in 1946, he habilitated in 1947 with the work The salvation at baptism by the Apostle Paul in Friedrich Wilhelm Maier at Munich University of New Testament exegesis and was there in 1948 lecturer, from 1952 he was an associate professor of New Testament exegesis at the Philosophical- Theological College, Dillingen, 1955 Associate Professor in Bamberg. From 1957 to 1982 he was professor of New Testament at the Julius- Maximilians- University of Würzburg. After his retirement he worked as a chaplain in a nursing home and as spiritual director of the Community of Sant'Egidio.

Scientific activity

Schnackenburgallee was a member of the International Theological Commission and wrote numerous books, including a commentary on the Gospel of John and worked at the unit translation of the Bible.
