Rudolf Schwarz (conductor)

Rudolf Gerhard Schwarz ( born April 29, 1905 in Vienna, † 30 January 1994 in London) was a British conductor and pianist of Austrian origin.

Life

Black et al studied music Hans Gál in Vienna. From 1923 to 1927 he was under George Szell coach at the Düsseldorf Opera, from 1927 to 1933 under Josef Krips Conductor at the Baden State Theatre in Karlsruhe. In April 1933 he was discharged because of his Jewish origin. From 1936 to 1941 had black as Music Director of the Jewish Cultural Association in Berlin. 1943, his deportation to Auschwitz, where he finally came to the concentration camp Bergen- Belsen concentration camp Sachsenhausen. In 1945 he was able to leave for Sweden. From 1947 to 1951 he was musical director of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, 1951-1957 Music Director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. In 1957 he became chief conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, in 1967 Director of the Northern Sinfonia Newcastle upon Tyne.
