Rudolf Tobias

Rudolf Tobias (born 17 Maijul / 29 May 1873greg in Käina, Hiiumaa, .. † October 29, 1918 in Berlin) was an Estonian composer and organist.

Life

Tobias studied since 1893 at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, among others with Nikolai Rimsky -Korsakov. During this time, his cantata John of Damascus was, as he wrote the oratorio "The Jonah program" for soloists, choir organ and large orchestra. 1904 Tobias went to Tartu, 1910 to Berlin, where he was a professor at the Royal College initially worked as a lecturer, and later for music. In 1914 he participated in the German citizenship. In 1918, he died of pneumonia and was buried at the cemetery Wilmersdorf.

In 1992 his body was transferred and reburied after Kullamaa.

From 1994 until it was replaced by the euro graced the image of Rudolf Tobias ' the front of the 50 -krone note.
