Rueland Frueauf the Younger

Rueland Frueauf the Younger (c. 1470 probably in Salzburg, † 1547 in Passau ) was a painter of the Renaissance and the son of Rueland Frueauf the Elder.

An early work is the Crucifixion of 1496, which is still committed to the Gothic. A series of 1499, however, is influenced by the Dutch painting.

Among his most famous works, and one of the most important of the early 16th century, is one of the so-called Leopold cycle of 1505. The series of four images originally formed probably the wing of an altar. The reason for the creation of the work was the translation celebration of the Marquis, which was celebrated on February 15, 1506 in festive form.

A great image from 1507 shows the holy Leopold was painted over. All these works and thus the main part of the resulting images are located in the museum of the monastery of Klosterneuburg.
