Rufous-backed Kingfisher

The Rotrückenfischer ( Ceyx rufidorsa ) is a Southeast Asian kingfisher.

Features

The Rotrückenfischer reaches a body length of 12.5 to 14.5 cm. The plumage is colored on the underside yellow-orange. Mantle and wings are reddish with a violet tint. On the chin and ears ceilings are white spots. The beak and legs are red.

Occurrence

The bird survived to a height of 455 m in streams, ponds and other small bodies of water in lowland rain forests and sometimes in the mangroves. He comes into Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and rare in India.

Food

The food that is chasing the bird from a seated point of view, consists of fish, crustaceans, insects and other invertebrates.

System

Some experts Rotrückenfischer is only a color variation of the Jungle Fisherman ( Ceyx erithacus erithacus) viewed. The jungle Fischer, in contrast to Rotrückenfischer a dark blue to black top. On Borneo, where both kingfishers occur together, they mate with each other and come before all gradations between the red-violet and blue-black top. Also on Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula there are intermediate forms.

North of Kuala Lumpur but the Rotrückenfischer is sedentary, during jungle hikes Fischer undertakes. Here they rarely mate with each other and they also behave like two different species.
