Rufus (Band)

Rufus was an American funk band that was popular and the musical springboard for the singer Chaka Khan in the 1970s.

After the rock band The American Breed had fallen apart in the late 1960s, some members formed in 1970 in Chicago, Illinois, first the soul and funk band "Ask Rufus ". In 1974, when the singer Ron Stockert left the band called itself only Rufus, and the composed by Stevie Wonder song " Tell Me Something Good" (1974, U.S. charts 3rd place) and Chaka Khan started as the lead singer a climb, the the band through the entire '70s hit parade held on the front positions. The songs include, in particular because of the charismatic voice of lead singer Chaka Khan is still the standard repertoire of many nightclubs.

After many line-up changes and several name changes ( " Rufus featuring Chaka Khan ", " Chaka Khan and Rufus " ) left Chaka Khan, who had previously started with solo projects, early 1980s, the band and started a solo career.
