Shore dock ( Rumex maritimus )

The Shore dock or beach - sorrel ( Rumex maritimus ) is a species of the genus sorrel ( Rumex ) in the family of the buckwheat family ( Polygonaceae ).

Description

The Shore dock is a herbaceous plant that is reaches a height of 10 to 60 cm and a golden yellow coloring to fruit ripening to brown.

It blooms from July to September. The inflorescences are usually tightly constructed. The flowers themselves are composed of six tepals, the anthers are 0.4 to 0.6 mm long, there are three scars present.

The fruits are three -angled, not winged and stand on thin, thread-like peduncles. They are fully shrouded to fruit maturity of the Valven. The Valven are colored golden brown, 2.5 and 3 (rarely to 3.5 ) mm long and shaped ovate - triangular. Stand on both sides of the blades two ( rarely three ) bristle- like teeth, they are longer than the width of the blades. After facing the Valven are pointed. The calluses are narrow and pointed forward.

Occurrence

He is often found in very humid, partly flooded locations such as banks of water bodies or wet-dry waste places. He is not only popular in Germany, but also grows circumpolar.
