Runde Environmental Centre

The Miljøsenter round ( round Environment Centre ) is a research institute on the West Norwegian island of Runde. The newly-built Environmental Centre was opened on October 1st 2009 by the Fylkesordførar of Møre og Romsdal Olav Bratland.

Research

Core task of the round Miljøsenters is the provision of infrastructure for environmental research and environmental education. The Environmental Center provides researchers of various scientific disciplines such as biology, oceanography, geology, meteorology and environmental sciences research possibilities. In addition, the round Miljøsenter research in the field of energy from the sea such as tidal and wave power plants and the eco-effectiveness (cradle to cradle). Such a wave power plant was installed for research purposes in September 2009 off the island round, but had to be shut down and dismantled due to technical problems in a short time.

Information Centre

For visitors and tourists an information and education part is to be established, which provides information on current research activities. Exhibitions on the environment, climate, biodiversity of the island and maritime resources are planned. Another exhibition is dedicated to the 1725 sank off Round Dutch East India sailors Akerendam. Shown is a part of the exhibits from the Bergen Maritime Museum. The Miljøsenter also provides space for courses, conferences and seminars of various kinds

In April 2013, the impending bankruptcy of the round Miljøsenters could be averted by public funds. Source: Vikebladet
