Running of the Bulls

At Bull Run (also bull race; Spanish bull running = inclusion, inclusion ) drives young bulls through a city in a particular direction, usually to the bullring. To this end, the side streets barricades are set up so the bulls can not deviate from the main route to the junctions. Through narrow openings, the (human) participants of Bull Run can occur on the road, driving the bulls or running before them, and also to bring back to safety.

After driving into the arena the bulls remain for some hours before being killed at a bullfight in the evening. After the battle, the meat is sold and used for barbeques or as a tapas ingredient. The heads are often stuffed and hung up as trophies on the wall.

The most famous and visited internationally is the Running of the Bulls at San Fermin fiestas in Pamplona, which originated from the lead away the cattle to the cattle market by butcher boys in the Middle Ages. He also provided the template for one of the most evocative descriptions of the bull run; they can be found in Ernest Hemingway's novel Fiesta. In protest against this bull run, the PETA organizes a nude run.

Opponents of Bull Run complain that the animals suffer great anxiety, panic and pain caused by blows, falls and fueled atmosphere at Encierro.

Seriously, but not deadly serious, the Pamplonaer cult label Kukuxumusu is dealing with the Running of the Bulls. It was founded by young designers who resented the same old postcards and souvenirs of the San Fermin festival.

Since 1924, 15 people were killed in the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona.
